What is the dVP_FAM platform?

Persons at risk of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer require targeted, well-coordinated care, as they have a significantly increased risk of developing the cancer due to inherited genetic mutations – for example in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 risk genes. Early detection of this risk is crucial in order to be able to introduce targeted preventive measures. However, the path from the first risk assessment in primary gynaecological care to specialized counselling or genetic testing in a university center is often complex, time-consuming and difficult to understand for many of those affected.
This is where dVP_FAM comes in: The digital platform supports clinicians and persons at risk throughout the entire care process and simplifies collaboration between different healthcare sectors.

For gynaecologists in primary care, the platform creates supports family history taking and risk assessment and facilitates referral to specialized centers. Doctors gain confidence in handling genetic risks and can provide their patients with targeted support.

For persons at risk, dVP_FAM offers an easy way to make appointments at specialized centers, to prepare for genetic consultations and to securely manage important health information. This allows them to keep track of and control of their data.

With dVP_FAM, we are pursuing three central goals:

To identify persons at risk of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer in order to offer suitable care pathways in good time – ideally before they develop cancer themselves

To strengthen the empowerment of persons at risk and sustainably improve their quality of life

To make cross-sector collaboration between outpatient and specialist healthcare more efficient and seamless

dVP_FAM was developed by experts from the fields of medicine, psychology, ethics, law and IT together with those affected. The platform is currently being evaluated in a scientific research project led by Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Technische Universität Berlin.
